Our client is the peak industry body representing the wild catch, aquaculture, and post-harvest seafood sectors in the region. As a not-for-profit organisation established in 1978, it promotes a robust, sustainable, and high-quality seafood industry through effective advocacy, strategic leadership, and inclusive representation of its members.

About the role:
Our client is seeking a values-driven and experienced Independent Chair to guide the organisation's governance, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning to support its long-term resilience and relevance.

The Independent Chair will lead the Board in delivering strong governance, strategic oversight, and effective engagement across industry, government, and the broader community. The successful candidate will champion excellence in board performance and contribute actively to shaping the organisation's future direction. A key focus will be overseeing the delivery of a modernised constitution, an updated strategic plan, and reshaping what the Council does to ensure it remains relevant and effective in a changing industry landscape.

Key Selection Criteria 
Candidates must demonstrate strong skills, knowledge, and experience in the following areas: 

Essential
  • Strategic planning and performance monitoring 
  • Corporate governance and board leadership 
  • Stakeholder engagement and representation 
  • Legal and regulatory compliance 
  • Risk management 
  • Leading or chairing boards or advisory groups 
  • Delivering strategic reform and organisational transition 

Desirable
  • Accounting and auditing
  • Branding and communications 
  • Wild-caught or aquaculture fisheries operations 
  • Fisheries management and policies

Preference will be given to candidates based in the Northern Territory; however, suitably qualified interstate applicants are encouraged to apply. 

What's on offer:
  • Remuneration of up to $40,000 per annum plus statutory superannuation, negotiated based on experience and the responsibilities agreed upon. 
  • Travel and accommodation for meetings will be arranged and covered by the NTSC. 
  • Initial appointment of up to 2 years, commencing mid-2025.
  • Estimated time commitment of approximately 30 days per year.
  • Board meetings are held in Darwin and virtually, with flexibility in attendance arrangements.
