KEY FOCUS OF ROLE:

The primary objective in this position is to lead the structural engineering function and team in defining the ongoing strategy and technology requirement within the organistation and to supervise the delivery of structural and design deliverables on transportable switchrooms and associated products.


Your responsibility areas will include but not be limited to:

·Develop and grow people in the team, to achieve high output and high professionalism.
·Understand the company project management cycle and recommend/implement activities to improve the process around structural engineering, and overall.
·Prepare structural engineering strategy moving forward for review with management.
·Read and understand project specifications and standards to define project structural engineering delivery framework and assign work to relevant engineer(s).
·Learn and understand company design and construction methods to deliver designs that conform to standard practices.
·Work with the Switchroom Design team to review and refine work practices to bring improved efficiencies in design, construction methods and materials usage, with a more modular system/approach.
·Work to automate repetitive design tasks by using innovative solutions and developing customized design tools in CAD programs and spreadsheets.
·Participate in implementing a strong 3D CAD capability within the team.
·Liaise proactively with clients to understand their requirements and adapt design to suit.
·Basic checking of design and drafting work done by others to ensure compliance and correct interpretation of design intent.
·Define and recommend specifications and performance or functional requirements for new projects.
·Liaise with Engineering team for designs based on development work, or construction and production engineers associated with the construction or manufacturing of structures or products.
·Carry out factory inspections and liaise with suppliers, clients or engineers concerning the design, installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned work.
·Review complaints and suggestions relating to assigned products.
·Attend to the technical aspects of requests for quotations and technical literature.
·Perform or supervise HVAC calculations required in projects and supports related client's technical comments/issues resolution


Skills and experience required to be successful in this role:


·Structural or/and mechanical engineering degree
·Demonstrated experience in design of electrical buildings (CPEng would be ideal)
·Experience in subcontractor management (cost, time & quality) for structural engineering
·Collaborative and cooperative approach
·Professional communication and interpersonal skills
·Strong document management and control experience
·Experience in preparing design criteria - structural section
·Commitment to developing others
