Our client, who is a Government owned corporation, is currently seeking a skilled Trade Assistant for the power station located at Channel Island, Darwin.

Overview

Join the Power Station team in Channel Island as a reliable and safety-conscious Trades Assistant to support mechanical maintenance operations at the Channel Island Power Station in Darwin.

This hands-on role involves assisting trades personnel with routine inspections, equipment lubrication, minor isolations, and defect identification. You will help maintain the cleanliness of plant and equipment, collect spare parts locally, and contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.

The position requires strong teamwork, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently within a Permit to Work system. Basic computer skills and a current or obtainable NT driver's licence are essential.

As a key support to the maintenance team, you will help ensure the safe and efficient operation of generation assets. If you are hands-on, safety-focused, and thrive in a team environment, we would love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) processes and procedures.
  • Assist trades personnel with routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Support plant operations including lubrication, isolations, and defect identification.
  • Maintain cleanliness of plant, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Pick up spare parts across the Darwin metro area.
  • Use computerised systems and work within a Permit to Work system.
  • Communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
About You…

The successful Candidate must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria.
  • Experience assisting trades or operational staff.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within safety systems.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • NT Driver's Licence (or ability to obtain)
Desirable:
  • Forklift, overhead crane, or MR licence
  • Confined space training (or willingness to undertake)
  • Welding skills
